Summer Junior Volunteer Program

The Volunteer Services Department at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center located at 4940 Eastern Ave. is delighted to welcome back our Summer Junior Volunteers.

The Summer Junior Program accommodates high school students interested in administrative and patient-centered care vocations for a duration of six weeks. The application period for Summer Junior Volunteers for the Summer 2025 program will be Monday, March 10 through Sunday, March 23, 2025.

Summer Junior Volunteer Applicant Requirements:

  • Must be at least 15 years old by June 1st, 2025 to be considered for the 2025 Summer Program.
  • Applicants must have two positive references from teachers from the current school year. References must be included in application.
  • Applicants chosen for an in-person interview will be notified by email with the interview dates. Small group interviews will last 25 minutes and will be held March 31 - April 4, between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00 PM on the JH Bayview campus.

Expectations for the Volunteers include:

  • Volunteers who are accepted into the program are required to be available to work a schedule of two (T/TH), three (M/W/F), or five days per week (M-F) for all 6 weeks. There are two shifts, 9 AM- 1 PM and 1 PM- 5 PM depending on the needs of the department. Please note that one major factor of where you will placed depends on your availability. The more flexible you are, the more opportunities will be available.
  • Students are permitted 2 excused absences for 2 or 3 day a week schedules, and 3 excused absences for a 5 day a week schedule. An excused absence includes an illness or family emergency. IF YOU ARE PLANNING A VACATION, A SUMMER JOB, SUMMER SCHOOL, OR IF YOU DO NOT HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN 7/7 - 8/18 DO NOT APPLY.
  • All completed Occupational Health Services medical requirements must be submitted no later than Wednesday, May 21st- no exceptions! Volunteers and one parent or legal guardian must attend a mandatory volunteer/parent information session together on Zoom. Dates and times for the sessions are Wednesday, June 25th or Thursday, June 26th from 6- 7 PM.
  • Volunteer Services will welcome the new class of Summer Junior Volunteers on Monday, July 7th from 9 AM- 4 PM for a mandatory Student Orientation which will include an information session, lunch, tour, and badging. Since this day cannot be replicated, all students must be in attendance. The first full day will be on Tuesday, July 8th.

  • Volunteer Services will make every effort to accommodate schedule and placement requests, but please be aware we cannot guarantee specific assignments.
