Child Life Volunteers in The Bloomberg Children's Center: The role of a Child Life volunteer is to provide positive interactions with patients and families and to normalize the hospital environment through play. We also utilize our volunteers for organizational tasks and infection control (cleaning toys and maintaining playrooms). We ask that volunteers commit to one 4-hour shift per week for at least 6 months of service (two semesters for students). The reason for this is it can take some time to get comfortable in the role, and it is best for our patients and families for you to be a consistent presence. We offer volunteer positions on our inpatient units as well as many of our outpatient clinics. New volunteer positions are available Monday - Friday. Morning shifts are 9am - 1pm and afternoon shifts are 1pm - 5pm. We do our best to place volunteers on units that match their interests and skills but due to scheduling and availability we can't always guarantee you will be placed on your first choice in units. The Child Life department accepts volunteers three times per year. More information on how to apply is available on their website Child Life Volunteer Opportunities at Johns Hopkins Children's Center. Questions? Email: [email protected]
